Amazing dog escapes difficult former life but has been impounded for a year

Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter

Milan, a "mature" pit bull mix, has been impounded at the Hempstead Town Animal Shelter in Wantagh, N.Y., since March 2013.

In just a few days, she will have been without a home for a full year - far too long for a dog who is so amazing that the shelter's behavior staff believes that she might be a good candidate for work as a pet therapy dog.

The shelter has shared the following information about Milan:

I came to the shelter with fly bites and old scars. I've had a rough life up until the time that I came to the shelter. The behavior staff thinks that I've been hit in the past. Even with all that has happened to me...I look to the future and I'm hopeful. My body may have been broken, but my spirit has not.

Milan enjoys cuddling on laps and playing a good game of tug - she is a good dog who needs to catch a break.

Please take a moment to network on Milan's behalf. Despite her glowing attributes, she has been overlooked for far too long.
