Amazing cleaning products that are green too

Mrs. Meyer's Lemon Verbena Spray
Mrs. Meyer's Lemon Verbena Spray

I don't know about you, but spending time cleaning my house is not my idea of fun. In fact, I pay a gal to come in and do the really yucky stuff. Suzy Homemaker I am not.

However, as any mother of a small child will tell you, messes are unavoidable. And unlike my dear mom, who freaks out at paint all over the counter or egg on the floor (sorry for spilling your obsessive-compulsive secrets online, mom), I've learned to go with the flow, because I've found the most amazing line of cleaning products that are not only effective but also safe for the kids and the environment.

What is this wonder product, you are asking with bated breath? Why I will tell you! It's Mrs. Meyer's
Aromatherapeutic Household Cleaners
, that's what. Available online or at your local supermarket (in the OC, I purchase it at Ralph's), these products work like nobody's business. Let's discuss.

My kids love markers. Love love love. Being the smart cookie that I am, I have them use watercolor markers that are easily washable off most surfaces (you see where this is going). Have you ever tried getting "washable" marker out of porous tile? Heh--not so easy. My typical Clorox wipes couldn't touch it. 409--haha. Comet--nope. So I went in search of (is that Leonard Nimoy's voice I hear?) a cleanser that would be gentle, yet strong. Kind of like the perfect man. But I digress.

Anyway, the guy at the grocery store recommended Mrs. Meyer's and I gave it a shot. Wow, was I impressed! One spray--literally, one spray!--of the Lemon Verbena Countertop Spray and that marker was history. I've since purchased several more products from the line and have been equally impressed with the results, as well as the fact that my kids and I are safe breathing in the stuff. And somehow they do this using naturally derived ingredients made from corn, sugar cane, coconut and palm. Click here for an excellent explanation of their environmental and safety information. And yes, there really is a Mrs. Meyer.

If you haven't already jumped onto the "green" bandwagon or think it's just a bunch of hooey, I urge you to make this one little change. If for no other reason than this stuff works. It's the most effective cleaner I have ever used; far more so than any traditional cleaner. The cost is not outrageous and it's worth it for the benefits of peace of mind and efficacy. Plus it smells really good--basil, lemon verbena, geranium, the traditional lavender, of course, and a whole line of baby products. There's even a pine scent out now for the holidays. Or you can go unscented if that works for you.

Check out the line at and see all the cuteness in all the scents or head over to your friendly neighborhood grocery store for a look-see.

Your home will be sparkling clean for your upcoming holiday parties or if you have any unplanned drop-ins.  If you have been struggling to get that darn wine stain out of the carpet--instead of throwing your faux bear-skin rug over it, try some Mrs. Meyer's first. You'll be glad you did.
