Amara Miller: First performance in 'The Descendants' takes her to the Oscars

First-time actress, 11-year-old Amara Miller, will walk down the red carpet at this weekend’s Oscars for her debut performance in George Clooney’s recent film.

Amara said her aunt was at a barbecue when she learned George Clooney was looking for a girl to play the role of his daughter in the film “The Descendants.” She immediately thought about her then 9-year-old niece, Amara Miller, who is now 11.

After learning there was a chance her daughter could play the role of Clooney's daughter in the film, Amara's mother was thrilled and approached Amara. Amara said she loved the idea, auditioned, and got the part.

When asked if she knew Clooney is one of the biggest celebrities in the world, Amara said she had no idea. She was only nine at the time, “Well he didn’t play in any kid movies,” she said.

When asked if walking down the red carpet this weekend is making her nervous Amara said no, she’s walked down other carpets before.

Amara went from living the normal life of a little girl to stardom in the blink of an eye. She seems to be enjoying it completely. She said working with George Clooney was great, and that there is no one out there better to work with.

In The Descendant Clooney plays the role of a married attorney with two daughters who was an absentee husband and a backup parent. He finds himself playing the role of primary parent after his wife's boating accident that left her in a coma.

Clooney learns that his wife was having an affair and was planning to leave him before her accident. While trying to parent their two daughters he is also handling the controversial sale of a large parcel of valuable island real estate, “25,000 acres of paradise,” to developers before it reverts back to the state.

His perspective and priorities changed dramatically after discovering his wife’s affair. He began a journey of self-discovery during which "his worst instincts and best intentions pulled him in different directions toward the same destination."
