Portland serves as the setting for the hit television shows "Grimm,""Portlandia," and Leverage," and this month the city will also star as the backdrop for a thriller on the big screen in Amanda Seyfried's new film "Gone."
The actress began shooting on location in Portland last April, alongside Lakeshore Entertainment's production crew. They filmed until June, with the majority of it taking place in the Pearl District, downtown near the courthouse, and in Forest Park. The forest, in particular, worked out well for the movie's killer-on-the-loose storyline. Forest Park happens to feature a large and disorienting amount of dense, thick-growing foliage and hanging moss - perfect for suspenseful chase scenes in which characters desperately scramble to escape an evil killer.
In "Gone," Amanda Seyfried plays Jill Parrish, a woman who comes home one night to discover that her sister, Molly (Emily Wickersham), has disappeared. She is immediately convinced that Molly has been kidnapped by the same serial killer that abducted Jill a year earlier, from whom she successfully escaped. She believes that he has now taken Molly to gain revenge.
The problem is when Jill goes to the police with this theory, they think she is crazy- due to a lack of evidence, they don't believe that Jill was ever kidnapped in the first place, and that she hallucinated the whole thing, and therefore they refuse to believe there is a killer on the loose. Jill knows that Molly will be murdered at sundown, so she sets off on her own in the race to find the killer and save her sister.
Amanda Seyfried is now a well-known Hollywood actress, but she grew up on the other side of the country, in the small town of Allentown, Pennsylvania. She received her first film role in 2004 via Tina Fey, who hired her to play the gloriously ditzy Karen in "Mean Girls." More recently, Seyfried has just wrapped filming on the Linda Lovelace biopic, "Lovelace," with James Franco, in which she plays the title role.

"Gone" is Brazilian director Heitor Dhalia's fourth feature film. He is best known for his Portuguese film, "À Deriva," starring Camilla Belle ("Push") and Vincent Cassel ("Black Swan"), which competed at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. "Gone" is also Dhalia's first English-language film.
"Gone" also stars Jennifer Carpenter, Wes Bentley, Sebastian Stan, and Daniel Sunjata.
It's set for theatrical release on February 24th, and is rated PG-13.
