According to an article published by the L.A. Times on Jan. 30, 26-year-old Amanda Knox and her former Italian boyfriend have been found guilty in the 2007 murder of Knox's roommate, Meredith Kercher.
The L.A. Times reports that Knox and 29-year-old Raffaele Sollecito have been found guilty of murdering Kercher for the second time. The pair were found guilty in 2009, but that ruling was overturned in 2011 after an appeal.
Knox wasn't present Thursday when Judge Alessandro Nencini sentenced her to 28 and a half years in prison. However, if the Italian supreme court upholds the ruling, Knox could face extradition back to Italy.
Reports indicate that Sollecito was sentenced to 25 years in prison, and was ordered to turn over his passport and to remain in the country pending the review of his sentence by Italy’s supreme court.
Meredith Kercher, 21, was murdered in Perugia, Italy on Nov. 1, 2007.
