Amanda Bynes was formally diagnosed with two serious mental disorders, according to a source close to her family. Amanda was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Bynes' official diagnosis was reportedly made while she was being treated at the UCLA Medical Center, according to Radar Online on Sept. 30. Meanwhile, the troubled 27-year-old actress's move to a private treatment facility in Malibu was explained by her mother as a better fit for her.
The schizophrenia and bipolar disorder diagnosis was difficult for parents Lynn and Rick Bynes to hear, but it was also what they suspected all along. The parents were forced to watch their daughter's downward spiral and were unable to help her.
Throughout Amanda's troubled last 18 months or so of antics during her very public meltdown, her parents were stymied to act, until her mom finally convinced a court to grant her a conservatorship in August.
Some reports took jabs at Amanda's move to The Canyon rehab center, due to its notoriety for catering to celebrities. But Bynes' mother Lynn defended the move saying it's a better fit for her.

Supposedly Amanda felt scared in the UCLA hospital ward. It was very cold, clinical and institutional to her. According to the Radar source, she was turning into a zombie and was withdrawing even further into herself.
Some stories call Bynes' progress slow, while others say she's improving. Monday her parents issued a statement following the news of Amanda's move breaking, in which they said the actress is making "great strides" towards recovery. All that's being said today is that she's responding to treatment.
The good thing about the diagnosis is that at least doctors know what they're dealing with and can treat her conditions with medications. Amanda can lead a long and normal life, as long as she takes her meds.
The time consuming thing is for the docs at the treatment facility to get Amanda to a therapeutic level.
