Amanda Bynes’ eating disorder was revealed during one of the actress’ recent Twitter rants. According to an April 5 report by the New York Daily News, the “Easy A” star took to Twitter to deny allegations that she has a mental illness by claiming that she has an eating disorder instead.
Amanda Bynes first concerned her Twitter followers by tweeting, “I have an eating disorder so I have a hard time staying thin.” A few minutes later, she wrote this: “I'm suing certain blogs and magazines saying I have a mental illness! They take pictures anytime I've gained weight then write a fake story!”
But most blogs and magazines aren’t taking those pictures because Amanda gained weight -- they’re merely pointing out her new bizarre sense of style that includes cheek piercings and really ratty red wigs. Amanda seems to be the only one who is trying to turn her weight into an issue by posting selfies on Twitter and complaining about how “pudgy” she looks. Perhaps she’s hoping to sue blogs and magazines for causing her eating disorder by posting the photos that she’s upset about.
Amanda’s argument doesn’t make much sense -- the blogs are right in claiming that she has a mental illness since eating disorders can be considered mental illnesses. They can also cause bizarre changes in behavior like Amanda Bynes has been exhibiting -- a lack of proper nutrition, an obsession with food, and a warped body image will definitely affect the brain in negative ways. Perhaps Amanda has been posting so many photos on Twitter because she’s suffering from severe body image issues -- it’s possible that she’s in search of praise that will make her feel better about herself. The actress did go on a Barbie photo-posting binge one night, so perhaps she’s one of the many young women out there struggling to obtain that impossible body ideal.
Unfortunately Twitter can be a tough place for those who are already suffering from low self esteem, so Amanda probably needs to take a break from social media. It’s just a shame that there seems to be no one around to make her stop torturing herself by getting on Twitter and reading the tabloids.
