Amanda Bynes cleared of charges from New York bong throwing case

NEW YORK — On Monday June 30 The bong-tossing case versus Amanda Bynes was dismissed. Bynes listened to the judge’s orders, which were go to counseling.

Just last year, the 28 year old Bynes was charged with reckless endangerment and possession of marijuana. Police were called by the actress' apartment building management. Turns out Bynes was smoking pot in the lobby of her Manhattan apartment building. When officers entered her 36th-floor apartment, they said they saw her toss a bong out the window.

The case was sealed by Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Lori Petersen after it was dismissed. Bynes was not present in the courtroom the day her name was cleared, but her attorney was certainly there.

Bynes was previously told by the court that the charges against her would be dismissed if she stayed was able to avoid troublesome behavior and if she attended counseling sessions twice a week. Attorney Gerald Shargel submitted an affidavit stating that Amanda Bynes had done as she was told and was complying with the court orders.

“She did her counseling and it’s now all behind her,” Shargel said outside of the courtroom.

In February, Bynes pleaded no contest to a reckless driving charge which was alcohol-related. She clipped a Los Angeles County sheriff’s patrol car in April 2012. Bynes was given three years of probation as well as three months of alcohol education classes.

The former child actress received psychiatric treatment last year after authorities reported that she set a small fire in the driveway of a residence located in Thousand Oaks, California.

Bynes was 13 when she was hit stardom on “The Amanda Show” on Nickelodeon. Bynes has had a substantial television and film career including the sitcom “What I Like About You” as well as several films, including “What a Girl Wants,” ”Hairspray” and “She’s the Man.”

In a shocking media display, Bynes announced that she retired from acting. In 2010, Bynes stared in her last film to date “Easy A,” which also featured Emma Stone.

The former actress has since been studying fashion at Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Irvine.
