World Alzheimer’s Day is September 21. Support for major memory loss diseases in Congress has been minimal. Thirty -five million people around the world have been reported as having Alzheimer’s or a related memory loss disease.
Memory loss is not the stigma of shame it once was because of education and research. However, there is much more to be done to stamp out this expensive, extensive and debilitating decline of human resources.
Every citizen in every country can find a way to participate in raising awareness and resources for research and treatment for memory loss diseases.
On September 21, 2010, research bike riders will arrive in Washington, D.C. and deliver thousands of signatures to legislators on the capitol steps. The signatures are being signed by supporters from a 66 day, over 4,500 mile ride from California.
Bruce Kenosian, Richard Mayeux, Ben Green, Nick Avignon, Christian Avignon and Thomas Wiesniewski invite you to sign in support of the Breakthrough Act proposed legislation.
According to Open Congress.org, H.R.3286 - Alzheimer's Breakthrough Act of 2009 is “To amend the Public Health Service Act to fund breakthroughs in Alzheimer's disease research while providing more help to caregivers and increasing public education about prevention.”
Signatures on petitions and letters to congress can force legislators to push through the Breakthrough Act, stop apathy, and support awareness of memory loss diseases.
