Alyssa Milano steps up to help Lymphatic Filariasis suffers: Doubling donations

Alyssa Milano is serious when it comes to helping the suffers of Lymphatic Filariasis commonly known as elephantiasis. Over 120 million people have the disease and most haven’t even heard of it. To raise awareness and funds, the actress took to her fan stream Tuesday to tell fans she will be matching every dollar donated to the cause for the next 12 hours in hopes to raise the goal of $75,000

“For the next 12 hours, I WILL MATCH EVERY DOLLAR you donate until we reach our goal for LF”

Alyssa Milano founding Ambassador for the Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases has been involved in charity issues near and dear to her heart over the years, and this one is no exception. Willing to put her own money in to make a difference, she shared just how small the donation is compared to how many people it will help who have the disease.

“When you think about it, $75,000 isn’t very expensive — only about $3.25 per person, per year — a small amount of money can make a huge impact,” writes Milano.

According to Milano, the disease “is found in many tropical climates and is transmitted to humans through the bite of a mosquito- causing painful swelling of the limbs.”  While there isn’t a cure, there is much that can be done to manage and prevent the cause.

To donate to help those afflicted with Lymphatic Filariasis, you can check out Milano’s urgent request to support the cause here. As with anything, a donation goes a long way to helping others.
