Alvarez vs Chandler 3 to main event first ever Bellator MMA PPV on May 17th

Philadelphia native Eddie Alvarez is the current 2 time Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion. He was the first big name Bellator MMA signed when the company began, and he was the Inaugural Bellator Lightweight Champion winning the first season of the Bellator $100K Lightweight tournament. After going 7-0 in the company, Alvarez faced off against up and coming Lightweight, Michael Chandler. Chandler shocked the world in 2011, defeating the top 10 Lightweight Alvarez in the 4th round of an epic war between the two. Alvarez had a tiny bit of trouble with Bellator MMA after his contract was up, but re-signed with the company and fought Chandler in a rematch for the Lightweight title in November of last year. Alvarez won the rematch via Split Decision and regained the Bellator MMA Lightweight Championship in another amazing fight. One of the best trilogies in MMA history will come to an end on May 17th, when Eddie Alvarez looks to defend his title against Chandler in the main event of Bellator MMA's first ever Pay-Per-View at the Landers Center (formerly known as the DeSoto Civic Center) in Southaven, Mississippi.

Alvarez holds a Pro MMA record of 25-3, having avenged both of his losses that took place in the Lightweight division. After losing his belt to Chandler in their first match up, Alvarez went on to face a top 10 Lightweight and a man who had previously beaten him, Japanese submission specialist Shinya Aoki. Alvarez defeated Aoki via TKO in under 2 and a half minutes. Alvarez then went on to face dangerous striker Patricky "Pitbull" Freire. After a very close back and forth first round, Alvarez landed a huge headkick and followed up with punches to put "Pitbull" away at 4:54 of Round 1. After that bout, Alvarez took time away from the cage in hopes to sign with the UFC (Article on the Bellator MMA/Eddie Alvarez situation HERE). Alvarez ended up re-signing with Bellator MMA and got the rematch MMA fans around the world wanted to see.

After Chandler defeated Alvarez to become the new Bellator MMA Lightweight Champion, Chandler took on UFC and Pride FC veteran Japanese fighter Akihiro Gono. Chandler ended up knocking Gono out in 56 seconds. Chandler then went on to defend his Bellator Lightweight title twice against tournament winners Judo Olympian and current Bellator MMA Welterweight number one contender Rick "Genghis" Hawn and David "The Caveman" Rickels. Chandler's next fight was the epic rematch between him and Alvarez, in which quite a few people believe Chandler may have been the winner. That fact, coupled with how amazing both of their previous fights were sparked the immediate rematch and the rubber match for both men. Alvarez/Chandler is hands down one of the best and most exciting rivalries in MMA history, and you should expect nothing less for their third fight.

The co-main event for the first ever Bellator MMA Pay-Per-View is none other than former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in a grudge match against former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal in the Bellator MMA Season 10 Light Heavyweight Tournament Finals. Since joining Bellator MMA 'Rampage' is on a two fight win streak defeating former UFC Heavyweight Joey "The Mexicutioner" Beltran via KO at Bellator 108 in Atlantic City, NJ and most recently defeating the former Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Champion Christian M'Pumbu via KO as well. Since joining Bellator MMA, 'King Mo' has gone 4-2 in the company, losing both times to current Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight number one contender Emanuel Newton. There have been multiple times where 'Rampage' and 'King Mo' have gotten into heated discussions including at the Bellator MMA 110 Post Fight Press Conference (Link to the Post Fight Press Conference HERE). Whoever wins that bout will have bragging rights, will be the winner of the $100K tournament, and will fight for the Bellator MMA Lightweight Championship against the winner of Emanuel Newton vs. current Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Champion Attila Vegh.

Bellator MMA 120: Alvarez vs. Chandler 3 will be at the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi. Tickets are on sale now HERE. The first ever Bellator MMA Pay-Per-View will be on May 17th, 2014 and the main card will begin at 10 PM ET.
