Henderson Alvarez pitched a thrilling game for the Miami Marlins against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. ESPN reported on Sept. 29, 2013, "Henderson Alvarez no-hits Tigers as Marlins win on wild pitch in 9th." This game had a wild ending as the Marlins scored on a two-out wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Tigers 1-0 on Sunday.
The Marlins had loaded bases and with pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs at bat, Luke Putkonen blew the game with a wild pitch which let Giancarlo Stanton score. Alvarez was on deck, and he took off his batting helmet as he started to celebrate with teammates while still wearing his batting gloves as the game ended. Alvarez was later seen in the stands to hugging his pregnant wife and kissing her belly.
USA Today has reported, "Walk-off, wild pitch no-hitter for Marlins." Alvarez was really excited at the end of this game and said, "I was ready to go back out there for the 10th inning, but I'll take that wild pitch." Alvarez was one of the players who was acquired by the Marlins last off-season as part of a 12-player trade with Toronto. The 23-year-old Venezuelan, Alvarez, appears to have a lucrative future in front of him.
