Saturday October 19th at the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado, Denver’s Mike ‘303’ Alvarado (34-1, 23 KO’s) battles Ruslan Provodnikov (22-2, 15 KO’s) for the interim WBO light welterweight title on HBO immediately following a replay of the Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) vs Timothy Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) on an HBO PPV bout telecast this Saturday October 12th for Bradley’s WBO welterweight title beginning at 7pm.
The undercard features as its main attraction Denver’s Juan ‘Chago’ Santiago (14-10-1, 8 KO’s) taking on former 4-time World Champion Juan ‘Baby Bull’ Diaz (37-4, 19 KO’s) in what will surely be an exciting welterweight bout.
Alvarado and Diaz are both part of fundraising efforts held this Saturday October 12th, Alvarado hosting a ‘Fan Appreciation Day’ open workout at Delgado’s Gym, 2333 Delgany St. from 1-5 PM with donations being accepted to help the family of 13 years-old amateur boxer John Espinoza (D-Town) who was injured in a sparring accident that has left him paralyzed on his left side with medical bills mounting, and Diaz helping fundraising efforts for 10 years-old Frankie ‘Coco’ Sanchez, Jr. (son of former Denver pro boxer Frankie ‘The Educator’ Sanchez, Sr.), ‘Coco’ a 2-time Colorado State Champion wrestler who is undergoing heart surgery on October 21st, that fundraiser held at Noonan’s Bar & Grill, 13521 E. Iliff Ave. in Aurora from 3-9PM with all proceeds from karaoke, Texas Hold-Em Poker and a silent auction going directly to help the Sanchez family with costs stemming from the heart surgery.
For these two world class boxers to take time from their rigorous training schedules, that are now winding down, to show support for two youngsters who are battling for their lives is typical of what the sport of boxing personifies.
