Londoners Aluna Francis and George Reid have been burning up the charts across the pond for the better part of a year. Over the past few months, the duo has seen similar success stateside.
Fresh off a highly-touted performance at Budweiser's Made In America Festival, AlunaGeorge made its way to Washington, D.C., to kick off the band's first headlining tour of the United States.
Since releasing its full-length debut, Body Music, AlunaGeorge has amassed quite a following in the colonies. This was never more apparent than last night, as a sell-out crowd crammed into the U Street Music Hall.
Taking the stage a little past 11 p.m. on a Tuesday, AlunaGeorge unleashed a relatively brief, but captivating set. Francis appeared a bit timid through the first few songs, but eventually hit her stride during songs like "You Know You Like It" and "Body Music."
About mid-way through the set, the duo's rendition of Montell Jordan's "This Is How We Do It," garnered quite an enthusiastic response from the crowd--everyone loves a good 90s R&B cover. The energy level would only increase from there as the band banged out tracks like "Lost & Found" and the Disclosure-assisted "White Noise," down the home stretch.
Before closing out the set with "Your Drums, Your Love," Francis took a moment to express her gratitude to the capacity crowd. Grabbing a foothold in America is not always easy for British pop acts, but if last night's show was any indication, AlunaGeorge does not have much to worry about.
