Previously, we discussed how soda and sugar laden drinks are heavily consumed in the US. Here are some healthier alternatives to soda ranging from fruit drinks to energy drinks to carbonated beverages.

If you're in the mood for an iced tea, here are some healthy options: Steaz offers iced green tea beverages with many flavor choices. They also have a sparkling iced tea if you're craving something carbonated. Steaz teas are delicious and sweet while not overwhelmingly sweet. Even my husband-a soda drinker-said he would drink these instead. Steaz is sweetened with organic evaporated cane juice but they also offer a zero-calorie tea sweetened with Erythritol, a natural sweetener.

If you enjoy Monster or Red Bull energy drinks these offer healthy alternatives: Steaz also offers a clean version of an energy drink. Guarana berries, green tea, yerba mate and B vitamins offer natural sources of energy with out the unhealthy side effects. Instead of taking away important nutrients, they are adding in.

Kombucha is also a good alternative to soda. It it lightly carbonated drink that promotes detoxification, the probiotics improve digestion, and alkalizes your body. Many brands of kombucha are now available due to popularity. There are also several flavors to choose from.

Hot teas, whether loose leaf or bagged are great especially as the weather gets cooler. Green, white, black and red teas are all high in antioxidants and offer small amounts of caffeine that subtly give you energy. Teas are also enhance and improve your digestion and are beneficial for your metabolism and overall health.

Anytime you want to sweeten your beverages, I would recommend stevia, an herb based sweetener. Stevia has zero calories and is about 40 times sweeter than sugar. This is a great option for diabetics as it does not negatively affect your blood glucose or cause spikes. Other alternatives for sweeteners include xylitol, agave nectar, honey, molasses, and sorghum.

If you are unsure about a particular drink, it is helpful to look at the ingredients.
