Alternative medicine for Lupus focuses on strengthening the immune system. Lupus is classified as an autoimmune disease. Autoimmune diseases are characterized by the body attacking it's own defense systems. Therefore, conventional Lupus medicines often concentrate on lowering immunity. This is why a strong immune system is essential alternative medicine for Lupus and other autoimmune diseases. While the two approaches sound contradictory, they actually compliment each other.

Omega 3

Supplementing with Omega 3 is a crucial alternative medicine for Lupus. Omega 3 not only strengthens the immune system. It also keeps inflammation under control. Lupus patients who are bothered by sunlight should avoid direct sunlight and wear sunscreen when out of doors. Lupus patients whose symptoms worsen in the sun can take vitamin D supplements to make up for the lack of sun. For patients who tolerate the sun well, it's still the best way to obtain vitamin D.

Exercise

Exercise is among the best of alternative medicines for Lupus and other diseases. It keeps the blood flowing and promotes heart health. Exercise cleanses the system of toxins by moving them out of the body. Exercise also helps with inflammation and other joint problems by keeping the joints and muscles limber.

Avoid smoking

Lupus patients must take very good care of their major organs. Lupus can cause swelling and inflammation of the heart. This leads to heart attacks and other health issues. Smoking is a huge risk factor for heart disease. Abstaining from smoking keeps the heart healthier. A healthy heart is better able to fight the effects of Lupus.
