On Nov. 2, 2013 an image of the alternate art foil Karametra's Acolyte from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming "Magic: The Gathering 2013 Holiday Gift Box" surfaced online in a post to MtgSalvation.com. Last year's box featured "Return to Ravnica" art, booster packs, stickers, and a promo Dreg Mangler. This holiday season is "Theros" themed.
Karametra's Acolyte - 3G
Creature - Human Druid (Uncommon)
Tap: Add an amount of G to your mana pool equal to your devotion to green. (Each G inthe mana costs of permanents you control counts toward your devotion to green.)
"The wilds are a garden tended by divine hands."
In the right deck Karametra's Acolyte will create an incredible mana acceleration. If you have help from Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx or other mana dorks such as Elvish Mystic then generating the mana to cast enormous creatures such as Skarrg Goliath or Worldspine Wurm won't be entirely unreasonable even if you don't control a Garruk, Caller of Beasts on the battlefield. Because you'll be taking advantage of devotion, you'll want to include Reverent Hunter.
After you've emptied your hand you'll need a way to take advantage of all that mana. One idea is to use Nylea, God of the Hunt, which should be an indestructible creature. You'll also be able to pay the monstrosity cost of Polukranos, World Eater, Polis Crusher, Stoneshock Giant, or Ember Swallower. Or you could just cast a game winning X spell such as Clan Defiance or Biomass Mutation.
How will you use the new promotional foil Karametra's Acolyte?
The "Magic: The Gathering 2013 Holiday Gift Box" will feature:
- Four "Theros" booster packs
- Beautiful storage box that can hold more than 2,000 Magic cards
- Twenty "Theros" basic lands
- Six illustrated plastic dividers
- Sticker sheet for customizing the dividers
- An alternate-art Karametra's Acolyte from the "Thero"s set
It'll retail for an MSRP of $19.99 and be available on Nov. 15, 2013.
