Today May 29, 2013 a new alternate art Scavenging Ooze was revealed in a post on MtgSalvation.com. The card, which will be featured in this year's "Magic: 2014 Core Set," will be given to users who purchase the Steam, Ipad, and Adroid version of "Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers" by Wizards of the Coast and Stainless Games. Xbox 360 owners can get their hands on Bonescythe Sliver while PlayStation 3 owners can obtain an Ogre Battledriver.
Scavenging Ooze - 1G
Creature - Ooze (Rare)
G: Exile target card from a graveyard. If it was a creature card, put a +1/+1 counter on Scavenging Ooze and you gain 1 life.

Scavenging Ooze was originally printed in "Commander" and sees heavy play in Legacy thanks to its powerful ability. Scavenging Ooze is so relevant that it has replaced Tarmogoyf in the main deck of some Maverick builds, or at the very least appeared in a plethora of sideboards.
There's absolutely no doubt that Scavenging Ooze will see Constructed play and have impact on Standard and Modern. Unlike Rest in Peace, Scavenging Ooze is both hate and a path to victory. Almost all decks run creature cards, and several of the more popular decks in the format abuse them from their graveyard in one way or another:
- Reanimator decks using Angel of Glory's Rise or Griselbrand with Unburial Rites.
- Zombie decks discarding Gravecrawler and dredge cards like Dreg Mangler and Deadbridge Goliath to Lotleth Troll.
- Recurring Thragtusk and Restoration Angel with Angel of Serenity.
Scavenging Ooze isn't limited to just your opponent's graveyard. Your own graveyard is an excellent resource to help grow Scavenging Ooze, especially in a long game in which your opponent has wiped the battlefield with Supreme Verdict.
It may be easy to forget, however Scavenging Ooze also allows you to gain life. In close matches every point of life counts, and just one activation could mean the difference between victory and defeat.
How will you use Scavenging Ooze?
