Laugh I do when viewing my copy of Yelp as they review a place and within one week offer totally opposing opinions of the same dimension, be it service or food or ambience, it never fails to make me laugh when Yelpers so thoroughly disagree on IT.
“Franco’s Flapjack Breakfast House” offers just such opposing opinions on yelp. I’ve been there so let me offer my opinion on this new Alpine eatery. This place is in the same strip mall as Carl’s on the east side of the mall. It’s the small slot by Manana’s Mexican Food. It’s the same slot that once belonged to Ramon’s BBQ.
What I can tell you is Nancy and I ate a tasty mid-morning breakfast which was good enough but was a little pricey, revealing the contemporary price of doing business in this economy. Service was good as judged by the server, but a little slow as judged by the fry cook, yet presentation was all good.
Nancy did the French toast and I did an Italian Frittata. Her toast was pretty, and tasted good. My Frittata was good enough. The tab for two meals plus coffees ran north of $24.00 and portions were plentiful enough to keep me fueled until dinner.
There are now plenty of competitors for your dollars to spend on breakfast in Alpine. For atmosphere I’d still drift towards Janet’s. For best value I’ll gravitate to Jimmy’s. For cheapest spot, I’ll do the breakfast burger combo at Carl’s. So the game’s afoot for this new eatery.
Due to my dollars shrinking and getting too small to spread around to everyone, I’ll probably not make it to Franco’s much over the next few months. But feel confident if you want to head into the Flapjack Breakfast House located at 1730 Tavern Rd. in Alpine for a good tasting breakfast, served up by a good staff. And good luck to you at the Breakfast House.
