Alpine Meadows ski resort on the California side of Lake Tahoe plans to host its 31st-annual Snow Golf Tournament on April 12. Encouraged to wear festive golf-themed attire, competitors play with yellow tennis balls, rather than golf balls, on the slopes of the ski area. Each golfer must wear skis or a snowboard throughout the round.

Participants start at the top of Alpine Meadows’ Summit Six chairlift and play a makeshift nine-hole golf course down to the bottom of Alpine Bowl Chair. Players are provided with scorecards, pencils, clubs and tennis balls.

The event is free with a lift ticket or season pass. Participants can register at the top of Summit chair, starting at 9 a.m. on the day of the event.

Following the tournament, all scorecards will be entered into a raffle. Prizes include rounds of golf at The Resort at Squaw Creek near the ski area and Granite Bay Golf Club in Sacramento, Calif. A GoPro camera, Oakley goggles and sunglasses are also among the prizes. The raffle starts at 3 p.m. on the Sundeck.
