Here's what your $49 learn to ski and ride special will get you: "...a beginner lift ticket, equipment rentals and 2½ hour lesson – offering a savings of $90. The special deal will be offered for adults and kids (ages 8 and up) every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Alpine Meadows Jan. 7-30."

Dee Byrne, who is the managing director of Snowsports at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, had this to say:

"We are proud supporters of Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month and thrilled to offer such an affordable opportunity for guests to experience the sports we love so much. With the comfortable temperatures, sunny days and soft snow, the conditions are ideal for learning to ski or snowboard."

Interested? Beginner skiers and riders can either sign up online at, or go to the rental shop and sign up for the Learn to Ski and Ride Special.

If you get the ski or ride bug after this special, the offer is there to upgrade. Get two additional days of the Three-Day Progression Package for $180.

You get two extra days of lessons, along with lift tickets, equipment rental, and a really cool "learn-to-turn" guarantee for anyone 13 years old or older.

Take the extra lessons consecutively, or spread them out over the entire ski season. Normally, the three day package would run $329. It's a pretty good price break, and an unbeatable guarantee.

If you can't take advantage of the special, you can still learn to ski or ride at Squaw and Alpine throughout the season.

The adult package includes a full-day lesson for $159 if booked three days in advance and $179 for walk-ins. A package that includes a half-day, afternoon lesson is $119 if booked three days in advance and $139 for walk-ins.

For the little ones (3-13) the ski and ride packages are also a season long offering. The kids package includes a beginner lift ticket, lesson and equipment rental. Half day will cost $149, and full day runs $179.

Any time you want more individualized attention, private lessons offered by certified instructors from Squaw and Alpine are always available.
