Introduction: Sam and Sue are a brother and sister spy team. They help characters solve problems. Doug has lost his dog. Since dog begins with the letter D, Sam and Sue call in their good friend Dolly Dolphin to help them solve the case.

Doug entered the building and found the office of Sam and Sue, the brother and sister spy team. He knocked on their office door. KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

"Come in," invited Sue.

"May we help you," inquired Sam.

"I'm Doug."

"I'm Sam and this is my sister Sue. How may we help you, Doug?"

Doug said, "I've lost my dog."

"You've lost your dog?" Sue responded. "Now that's too bad."

"Tell us about your dog, Doug," Sam urged.

Doug said, "My dog's name is Daisy. She's a beautiful spotted Dalmatian."

"When did you last see your dog?" Sue asked.

Doug said, "Two days ago. I went for a walk by the lake. Daisy came with me, of course. She got so worn out that she lay down to take a nap. I went inside our house by the lake to watch some TV. When I came back out a couple hours later, Daisy was gone." Doug began to cry.

Sue said, "Don't cry or be dismayed, Doug. We'll find her. But we are going to need some help. Since dog begins with D, we will ask our special friend, Dolly Dolphin, to come and help us."

Doug sniffed. "How can a dolphin help us find my dog?"

Sam instructed, "Now Doug, Dolly Dolphin is very special. A dolphin can swim up to 25 miles per hour. A dolphin is very friendly and loves people. Our friend, Dolly, either makes a whistling sound or a clicking sound. When she makes that clicking sound, it will echo off other objects, helping her to locate her primary prey: fish, squid, and shrimp. It also could help her locate missing people or animals."

After getting directions from Doug, Sue called Dolly Dolphin on her special animal telephone. Within an hour, all four of them met at the lake near Doug's lake house.

Sue said, "Okay, Doug. Show us where you last saw Daisy."

Doug walked toward the dock. "This is where Daisy dozed off." As Doug pointed, he suddenly let out a gasp of dismay. "Oh, no! Our dinghy has disappeared, too."

Sue laughed, "Your whatty?"

Sam instructed, "My dear sister, a dinghy is a small open boat, somewhat like a row boat."

"Oh," Sue said. "Then what do you suppose happened to Daisy and the dinghy?"

(Let children in the class speculate.)

Dolly Dolphin had heard all she needed to hear. She swam away, making her clicking sound as she went. Periodically, she would dive under the water. In a couple of minutes, she would re-surface, letting out a great gasp of air through her blowhole on the top of her head. Then taking a deep breath, she would dive under the water again, click-click-clicking all the way.

Then Dolly Dolphin was out of sight. Sam said, "We might as well make ourselves comfortable. Don't feel any doubt or dread. If anyone can find your dog and dinghy, it will be our dear friend, Dolly Dolphin. In the meantime, Doug, I suggest you find some dog food for Daisy. She's going to be pretty hungry once Dolly brings her safely home.

Doug said, "Okay, Sam." Doug soon came out with food for Daisy to dine on and some doughnuts for them to munch.

After several minutes, the trio of watchers heard a piercing whistle. Sue said, "That's Dolly. She makes that sound when she is either alarmed or very excited. I bet she is on her way home with your Dalmatian."

Doug said, "I hope so. I would be very disappointed if she comes back alone.

In a few minutes, Dolly Dolphin appeared. She was pulling a rope attached to Doug's dinghy. In the boat, was a very weary yet delighted Dalmatian.

Doug was doubly delighted. "It's Daisy," Doug cried. "This surely is my lucky day!" Doug was nearly dancing in his excitement to be reunited with his dog once again.

Daisy's tail was wagging double time. When the boat reached the dock, the dog bounded out to lick his master's face and to gobble up the delicious dog food.

Sue asked, "How do you suppose Daisy came to be in the dinghy in the first place?"

Sam said, "Well, my guess is that she crawled into the boat to take her nap. The rope tying the boat to the dock must have then gotten loose somehow and off it drifted, carrying Daisy far away."

Sue said, "That makes sense. Well, Doug, the drama is over and your dog is found."

Doug said, "Thank you, Sam and Sue. Thank you, Dolly Dolphin. I am so delighted to see my dog again!"

Dolly Dolphin let out her piercing whistle once again and then swam toward her home.

Sam and Sue drove away, waving at Doug and his dog named Daisy until they were out of sight.

Doug and Daisy went inside the lake house, happy to be together once again.
