Last week we looked at some letter J activities. This week we will have fun with the letter K. Choose the activities that best fit your child's age and interest and be sure to check the photo album at the bottom of the page for pictures of example activities.

Letter K activity options:

  • Think about words that begin with K. Letter K words include kite, kitty, kaleidoscope, karate, Krispy Kreme, Kangaroo, kiwi, keyboard, kidney, key, kelp, Kool-aid, kettle, kazoo, kiss, kid, Kindergarten, ketchup, khaki, kick, koala, kosher and king.
  • Make a letter K kazoo. Decorate a recycled cardboard tube with the letter K by using markers or foam letters. Next, cover the end of the tube with a piece of waxed paper and secure with a rubber band. Hum into the tube for a kazoo effect.
  • Take a field trip to Krispy Kreme, Kroger or to have a key made.
  • Incorporate geography by learning about places like Kuwait, Kenya and Korea.
  • Make a Kaleidoscope and decorate it with the letter K. Use the instructions at Little Girl on the Go or National Geographic.
  • Make a Koala mask like the one in the slide show. Use the letter K to form the parts of the face. A koala template can be found at DLTK.
  • Sing letter K songs. See Everything Preschool for a list.
  • Make a fuzzy letter K kitten like the one in the slide show by using a cardboard tube. Cover the tube in glue and wrap with black yarn. Attach buttons for eyes, a pom pom for a nose and letter K cutouts for whiskers. The ears are made of construction paper and the tail is made from a chenille stem.
  • To make the kite craft found in the slide show, cut a diamond shape from construction paper. Attach a piece of yarn and letter K cutouts for the tail of the kite. Pipe cleaners or cotton balls are clouds.
  • Make a king's crown and decorate it with the letter K.
  • Have a meal with letter K foods like kraut, kosher franks, kiwi, Kool-aid and ketchup. Follow up with Rice Krispies treats.
  • Use Sillycone trays to freeze Kool-aid into the shape of a K.
  • Paint a letter K using Kool-aid. Dip the brush in water and then into the powder. It works just like watercolors and smells yummy.
