Allvoices is again pleased to announce that it will provide original on-the-ground coverage of the Clinton Global Initiative America conference in Denver, Colorado. Veteran political journalist John Michael Spinelli, who reported for Allvoices from CGI in Chicago last year, will be in Denver to talk to many of the newsmakers attending the three-day event slated for June 23-24-25.
CGI America this year will include several prominent participants, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is widely expected to run for president in 2016. 2014 participants will include Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, Sara Horowitz, Founder and Executive Director of Freelancers Union, Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos, Kansas City Mayor Sly James, Bill Ritter Jr., Founder and Director of the Center for the New Energy Economy (CNEE) at Colorado State University, Denise M. Juneau, Montana Superintendent of Public Instruction and Tiffany Lewin, a certified computer technician who works at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Allvoices readers who frequented The American Pundit page last year will be familiar with Spinelli’s work found in the half-dozen articles that ranged from alternative wind energy to books for children to discussions with key leaders like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. He has an extensive background covering Ohio politicians from governor to lawmakers to agency leaders as a credentialed member of the Ohio Statehouse press corps for three years. He covered the presidential contest in 2012 between President Obama and Mitt Romney extensively as he crisscrossed the Buckeye State with the candidates who fought to win it.
He welcomes reader suggestions for his coverage at CGI America and asks readers to post their questions as a comment on this report or subsequent reports he will be filing from Denver. Allvoices coverage of CGI America builds on its history of unique coverage of national political events. Two years ago in 2012, Allvoices Anchor Harold Michael Harvey reported from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., bringing readers original perspectives not found in other media coverage of the event.
CGI America “brings together hundreds of leaders from the business, government, and nonprofit sectors to devise real and effective solutions for economic recovery and job creation in the United States,” according to the CGI website. CGI was established by Bill Clinton in 2005 as an initiative of The Clinton Foundation. The CGI website says it “convenes a community of global leaders to forge solutions to the world's most pressing challenges.”
Many working groups will meet at CGI America in Denver this year. Topics will include community investing, residential energy efficiency, manufacturing, workforce development and more. Additional participants include, among others, Chelsea Clinton, daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton and a board member of The Clinton Foundation.
