Allure magazine has partnered with Microsoft Tag for this year's Free Stuff issue hitting the news stands in August. Readers can use their smartphones to participate in $725,000 worth of beauty giveaways.
To enter the contests, which begin August 2nd, smartphone users can type gettag.mobi into their mobile browsers to download the Microsoft Tag Reader. Then, using the app, they scan the tag in the magazine, or on Allure's page of Free Stuff, to register. There is also an option for users to opt-in to get text message alerts 15 minutes prior to each giveaway event.
For those who aren't familiar with Microsoft Tag, the product is a 2-D barcode that can be scanned using a reader app to pull up images, video, and a whole host of other interactive media and features. And Allure isn't the first magazine to partner with Microsoft Tag, as a number of Conde Nast titles have already participated, including W and Golf Digest.
The advantage of using Microsoft Tag for the Allure Free Stuff issue is that readers are no longer required to be tied to their computers all day, as they have in years past. Instead, they can just tear out the master Tag, stow it away in a purse, and scan on-the-go.
So what do you think? Are you going to participate with your smartphone? And, what hot beauty item do you hope to get more than any other?
