Allstays adds Tents for Troops network to military campground app

Charlie Curry’s Castle Rock, Washington-based non-profit military camping advocacy group, Tents for Troops (T4T), today announced that the nationwide network of campgrounds offering free camping to members of the active-military has been added to the popular mobile phone and tablet-based Military Campgrounds RV Parks app. The new update for the app (which went live today) -- developed by Adam Longfellow, founder of New Mexico-based Allstays LLC -- lists over 200 U.S. Military campgrounds, FamCamps and RV Parks across North America, plus 168 T4T member campgrounds. RV Parks and campgrounds in the Tents for Troops program offer a minimum of two free nights of camping for active-military -- including Reserves and National Guard -- along with members of their immediate family.

This is the second major milestone announced by the tiny non-profit in the space of a week. At the end of October, Tents for Troops received a letter of commendation from the White House for the non-profit’s pioneering role in building “a network of RV parks and campgrounds that provide free camping for active-duty and reserve service members and their families.”

T4T also played a key role in urging the Obama administration to extend free National Park access to active duty service men and women -- Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, activated National Guard and Reserves. The latter initiative, announced in May 2012, provides members of the military with an America the Beautiful National Parks Pass (or Federal Recreation Lands Annual Pass) at no cost. The annual pass for the U.S. Military can be obtained at a Federal recreation site by showing a Common Access Card (CAC) or Military ID (Form 1173).

The T4T campground information is slated to be added to the AllStays “Camp and RV” iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Android app sometime in November.

Readers can show their support for Tents for Troops by taking a moment to “like” the T4T Facebook page. Campgrounds wishing to join the T4T program can contact Charlie Curry via the T4T website.
