Allman Brothers Band sets Beacon Theatre residency

If it’s March, it must be time for The Allman Brothers Band’s annual residency at New York City’s Beacon Theatre. The southern rockers will perform 10 shows beginning March 9 and finishing up on March 25. Tickets go on sale Jan. 6.

Since beginning this tradition in 1989, The Allman Brothers Band have performed more than 200 sold out Beacon shows. Their 2003 run resulted in their gold-selling Live at the Beacon Theatre DVD and the One Way Out CD.

Prior to their run at the Beacon, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees will receive a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award on Feb. 11 during Grammy Week in Los Angeles. The award “honors performers who have made contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.”

“It’s shaping up to be a great year,” says Butch Trucks, who co-founded the band in 1969 with Gregg Allman, drummer Jaimoe, guitarist Duane Allman, bassist Berry Oakley and guitarist Dickey Betts. “We just wanted to make music that was honest and play it for friends, which is pretty much what we’ve done. It’s an honor to be able to be recognized like this.”

2012 also marks the 40th anniversary of their iconic 1972 live album, Eat A Peach. As such,  The Allman Brothers Band is hailing 2012 as “The Year of the Peach.”

In April, the group returns to Live Oak, Fla., where they will host their 8th annual Wanee Festival, April 19-21. The full line-up for the three-day festival has yet to be confirmed but previous artists have included Widespread Panic, Robert Plant & Band of Joy, Steve Miller, the Black Keys, O.A.R., Levon Helm, Buddy Guy, Little Feat, Bob Weir, Stephen Stills, Gov’t Mule and the Derek Trucks Band.
