Southwest Florida boasts some of the most beautiful natural scenes and fascinating species imaginable - along with some pretty amazing artists! Experience the wonder of our surroundings set to words and music in An Evening of Stories & Song. It takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at the Alliance for the Arts.
Sanibel author and naturalist Charles Sobczak will read from selected works in conjunction with a special chamber music performance by members of the Gulf Coast Symphony. The chamber pieces span a variety of composers, eras, and instrumentation, and are chosen specifically to accompany the readings. This intimate event creates a harmonious blend of nature and the arts.
The author of many books, including Six Mornings on Sanibel, Rhythm of the Tides, and Living Sanibel, Sobczak combines his passion for nature with artful storytelling. His most recent nature guide, The Living Gulf Coast, won a Gold Medal Award for Florida non-fiction (2011) and many of his other titles have won national and regional awards.
“Having once been a professional musician, the concept of combining music with stories has a particular appeal to me,” says Sobczak. “I look forward to this exciting collaboration of two great art forms—stories and songs.”
After the performance, join the artists for a wine-and-dessert reception in the Alliance Main Gallery and an opportunity to purchase autographed copies of Sobczak’s books. Seating is limited. Tickets are $50 and benefit Gulf Coast Symphony and Alliance for the Arts programming.
