Due to the mild winter across the country, including Central Ohio, many people are finding that their seasonal allergy symptoms have already begun.
While there is debate about the role played by global warming, it has been shown that increased levels of CO2 (carbon dioxide) in the air fuel pollen development in plants. The more pollen, the more allergies.
When the weather is mild like we have had here in Columbus, the trees, grass and flowers begin their growth season earlier. This means earlier pollen production. For those of us allergic to all types of pollen, it may seem like the allergy season is never ending.
If you begin to experience allergy symptoms, make an appointment with your physician to make sure it is allergies and not some other type of illness. Your physician will recommend medication and home care to help you cope with your symptoms.
In the mean time, keep track of the pollen count for the Columbus area before you go on that hike through the Metro Parks or start working on your yard or garden. See current pollen counts for Columbus here.
