If you have food allergies, many traditional and favorite Valentine's Day foods are out of the question. From chocolate allergies, to seafood allergies, finding allergy-free recipes to celebrate this special day can be a challenge.
Here are some allergy-free Valentine's Day recipes to get you started.
- Get out your heart shaped cookie cutter and cut out heart shaped sandwiches, make heart shaped gluten-free toast or heart shaped pancakes with gluten free flour. Top those pancakes with sliced strawberries for a vitamin boost.
- Make a heart healthy fruit salad using strawberries, red grapes, red delicious apples and bananas. Strawberries are on sale for just $1.50 per pound at Meijer this week. Make a strawberry or raspberry yogurt to dip it into.
- Fondue is a Valentine's Day favorite. Make your own at home if you have a melting pot, or just melt some chocolate in the microwave and dip gluten free pretzels, marshmallows, fruit or gluten-free shortbread cookies into it. Use dark chocolate for added health benefits! If you're allergic to chocolate, try white "chocolate" or a carob chocolate substitute instead.
- Make a gluten-free dessert, such as black bean brownies and top with ganache.
