Allen West: Media talking about Boko Haram kidnapping to distract from Benghazi

The Republican Benghazi obsession is continuing, this time linking the kidnapped Nigerian school girls by the Boko Haram extremist group to the attacks on the U.S. consulate on September 11, 2012.

The Republican party has been divided over the last few years. Far right Tea Party members, the religious right, the libertarian wing and the establishment have all fought for leadership within the GOP. The topics that they have all been able to unite under have been the issues of Hillary Clinton, President Obama and the 2014 and 2016 elections. In an attempt to smear Obama and Clinton, the front runner for the Democrat nominee, Republicans have continued to keep the attacks in Benghazi on the U.S. consulate in the news. Just last week, House Republicans put together another panel to investigate the attacks, despite multiple investigations not showing any evidence of a cover up or a scandal.

Continuing the theme of Benghazi obsession, former congressman, Fox News analyst and Tea Party favorite Allen West released an article titled "Focus on Boko Haram right now seems fishy to me" on his website, claiming that the media was distracting from Benghazi by speaking about the over 200 kidnapped school girls in Nigeria.

"Are we witnessing an Obama “Wag the Dog” moment with Boko Haram in Nigeria? I say yes.

Consider all the scandals facing the Obama administration, especially Benghazi and the Select Committee, which Rep. Nancy Pelosi referred to as a “political stunt.” Really? Four Americans die, we’re told it was because of an anti-Islam video, no one has been “brought to justice” and THAT is a phony scandal and a political stunt? Boy, if this had been a Republican president, he or she certainly would never have been reelected because the media would have been all over it. Instead the media is doing everything possible to protect Obama."

Allen West has been a darling of the extreme far right, but seen as a radical fanatic to those on the left and many in the center. West and others who continue to bring up alleged "scandals" like Benghazi only highlight the real issue at hand - the Republican party has run out of ideas and have no credible candidates. If the Republican party wants to be successful on a national level, they need to dump the extreme fringe of their party and focus on what could actually help the country.
