FedEx Ground, according to a plan submitted to the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission, wants to expand it current facilities in Allen Township. Now located on Willowbrook Road and Race Street, the plan causes for adding two more building, and creating a 24-by-7 sorting center that could handle 15,000 packages per hour.

On Monday, residents of Allen Township took their turn to voice concerns over how such a mega-hub will negative impact the environment and quality of life for the community.

Nearby homeowners are concerned about a site that is running 24 hours, 7 days a week, and will add an estimated 17,600 vehicles to the road each day. The noise, traffic, and fuel fumes ruining the air quality are just some of the immediate concerns.

FedEx is proposing to fund significant traffic improvements, to which the the Lehigh Valley International Airport is lauding--the Airport Authority sold FedEx the additional land needed for the expansion.Concerned citizens just see this as a roadway (no pun intended) for more industrial building but also for LVIA to pay of a $26 million judgement from a lawsuit concerning them illegally obtaining private land.

Opponents of warehousing and industrial building are always concerned with the loss of open space, as well as residents worried over the loss of the tranquil setting and agricultural view from over 1,800 tractor trailers and 600 smaller delivery vehicles making their way to 1.3 million square feet facility.
