Allen Iverson is officially a single man, but it didn’t come without him being told how awful of a parent he is by a judge. According to TMZ on Feb. 3, Iverson has been issued visitation rights but under strict guidelines.
Iverson got a strict talk from the Atlanta court judge about his parenting skills. The judge told Iverson he didn’t know how to manage kids and had very little interest in doing so. Iverson has left his children alone without supervision and he has a drinking problem.
"[Iverson] does not know how to manage the children; has little interest in learning to manage the children and has actually, at times, been a hindrance to their spiritual and emotional growth and development.
For example, he has refused to attend to an obvious and serious alcohol problem, which has caused him to do inappropriate things in the presence of the children while impaired.
He has left the children alone without supervision. He has left his young daughters in a hotel room with men who are unknown to the mother."
Tawanna Iverson was awarded legal and physical custody of their five children. Iverson has visitation but only under certain conditions. Iverson may not drink any alcohol within 24 hours of his visitation time with his children until they all over the age of 18 years old.
Allen Iverson has also been ordered to see a shrink and attend AA meetings for a year. Allen and Tawanna were high school sweethearts and married in 2001. The could have five children together. Tawanna filed for divorce in June 2012. Allen Iverson may be one of the best players in the NBA but he definitely won't be winning a parent of the year award any time soon.
