Allen Americans get iced in overtime against the Laredo Bucks 3-2

A very costly penalty in overtime for high sticking from Jim McKenzie results in just one point for the Allen Americans against the Laredo Bucks, and the loss 3-2.

In the CHL rules in overtime change. First both teams skate 4 on 4, and any minors that usually net a face off, turn into a minor penalty for one minute.

Just as the No. 1 penalty kill squad in the CHL (Americans) killed off another power play, and this time in overtime, Jim McKenzie was just coming out of the penalty box.

As McKenzie was stepping out of the box, the Bucks’ Rusty Masters was calling for the puck to be passed just right of the goal, as he was racing through the crease, with Marco Cousineau in front of him, and Americans all over him.

Getting the pass from Neil Trimm, it seemed to be moving in slow motion as the pass was perfect and Masters slipped the puck right by Cousineau on his right side for the win, and the two points in overtime.

Torrie Jung, goalie for the Bucks, fought off 31 shots on goal and iced the Americans for the second and third period, as well as the overtime.

The Bucks have beaten the Americans three of the last four meetings.

The Americans jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Colton Yellow Horn, and Jarret Lukin, who scored his 200 career point, and his 100th with the Americans.

But as the Bucks have done all season against the Americans, they hung in there, and got a goal in the second period from David Inman on the power play assisted by Adam Rivet, and Matt Pierce at the 7:05 mark.

The Bucks kept scrapping taking advantage of the Americans not scoring in the second to bring the score to 2-1at the end of the second period.

In in the third period at the 6:34 mark Matt Boyd retrieved a pass behind the Americans goal, and from where I was sitting (section 110) I saw Boyd move to the right of the goal, behind Cousineau. As Boyd was moving to the right Cousineau squirmed forward just enough for Boyd to shoot the puck right off the back of his pad on his left leg, and the puck went into the goal to knot the game at two.

And as reported earlier in this article the Americans fall to the Buck 3-2.

The Americans had many changes to the line-up this game as reported earlier, defensive-man Mike Berube has been called up to the AHL's Texas Stars—the Dallas Stars other affiliated team, and Lachlan MacIntosh retired. Keith Johnson was placed back on the 10 day IR list.

So there were new faces in the line-up for the Americans. They were Greg Brown, Jeff Martens, Aaron McGill. All got a fair amount of time on the ice tonight.

There were a total 70 shots on goal tonight—37 for the Bucks and 33 for the Americans.
