Drinking may often be associated with college football games, but there can definitely be too much of a good thing.
According to Yahoo Sports, an Alabama fan who appeared to have had too much to drink, was captured on video at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans Thursday night. The one-woman drama unfolded like a train wreck after the Alabama Crimson Tide lost to the Oklahoma Sooners, 45 - 31.
If you watch the video, you will see that the unidentified woman first went after an Oklahoma college student, but seemed to be hauled away by a friend. When the friend let down his guard, however, she returned with a vengeance, hurling herself on top of several Sooner fans.
The connection between drinking and college football games was apparently interesting enough to prompt research on the subject. In 2011, scientists published a study in the Journal of Alcohol and Drug Education regarding alcohol consumption of college football fans. Results demonstrated the majority of college football fans consume alcohol while tailgating on campus.
Who knows when or where this woman did her drinking, but one may hope she thinks twice before picking up a drink at the next game. She has until the 2014-2015 season to think it over.
It's not for anyone else to suggest whether or not this woman has a drinking problem, but her friends and family may be concerned if it was her alcohol consumption that triggered this behavior. (If not, that may be another issue altogether.)
However, if you suspect you or someone you know may have trouble limiting their alcohol intake, call a doctor or visit a treatment or mental health center in your community. In Huntsville, the Mental Health Center of Madison County is a great place to start. You can also call Bradford Health Services, which has locations across Alabama.
