Three alleged teen gang members have been charged with one burglary and are suspected of committing several others, Dalton police said Wednesday.
The teens were arrested Tuesday after a neighbor witnessed a break-in and called police, Dalton police spokesman Mr. Bruce Frazier said.
Police have charged Mr. Mark Medrano, 18, of 215 Goldenrod Lane, Mr. Esmalin Rene Chavez, 17, of 512 Central Ave. and Mr. Marcos Francisco Silva, 17, of 738 Reed Pond Road with burglary and violating the Georgia Anti-Gang Act, Mr. Frazier said.
“Investigators have reason to believe these suspects may be connected to other recent burglaries in the area of Goldenrod Lane, and further charges are possible as the investigation continues,” Mr. Frazier said.
The investigation into the three teens began shortly after 11 a.m. on Tuesday when a neighbor called police after spotting three men breaking into a house at 201 Goldenrod Lane through a back kitchen door, Mr. Frazier said.
The neighbor then told dispatchers that suspects ran out the back door and jumped the fence.
Officers searching the area found and followed a trail of footprints to the back yard of a nearby house, Mr. Frazier said.
They found the suspects with stolen electronic equipment including an iPad and iPod, assorted jewelry, and a designer purse, Mr. Frazier said. The stolen property was returned to the victim, he said.
Anyone with information on these three teens is asked to contact Detective Ricky Long at (706) 278-9085, ext.168.
