Two women from Brooklyn were arrested Friday after one of them was reportedly caught shoplifting from a Manhasset store and violently struggled with store security personnel, while her alleged accomplice helped her break free and run away, Nassau County police said.
The women – Alessandra Davis, 23, and Deborah Davis, 51, both of Brooklyn – were each charged with third-degree robbery and faced a judge Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
Detectives said the younger Davis walked out of the Lord & Taylor department store on Northern Boulevard with a black leather jacket on Friday night. When the store’s loss prevention officers stopped her outside, she became engaged in “a violent struggle” with the security personnel, a police news release said.
As the struggle with the security officers continued, the elder Davis “ran out of the store and assisted Alessandra in breaking free and running away,” authorities said. Responding police officers later found the two women nearby and both were arrested.
The two women were released without bail after the Saturday court appearances and are both due back in court on Dec. 3.
