A Texas man, accused of being involved in organized dog-fighting, was arrested on Thursday in Slidell, La, reported WWLTV News.
Officials arrested 42-year-old Ramel Varrick Johnson after responding to a tip about possible animal cruelty at a home on Powell Road.
Authorities discovered 15 malnourished pit bulls at the residence; the dogs had injuries which were consistent with having been fought.
According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, Johnson, whose official residence is in Killeen, Texas, has been charged with 15 counts of L.R.S. 14:102.5 – Dogfighting, training and possession of dogs for fighting.
Animal control officials seized the dogs which were at the residence and Johnson was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
