The Federal Bureau of Investigation is asking for the public’s help in identifying victims of suspected child molester and rapist, Matthew Coniglio today. While searching the home of Coniglio in connection with his arrest on child pornography charges, more than 50,000 images of children were found, but even more disturbing were the 56 8mm cassette tapes they say show him raping and molesting girls. In the films, Coniglio is seen with various girls in sexual scenes as young as 10. The children were obviously drugged as they were unconscious during the attack. Some were so incapacitated they were snoring. The camera was always turned off before they awoke.

According to investigators, the traveling salesman Coniglio, who worked and lived in cities across Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, “often looks back at the camera and even speaks” but the camera was always turned off before they awoke. Coniglio was arrested in Pooler, Georgia and was in a Chatham County jail cell in Savannah, Georgia. On April 20th, ten days after his arrest, Coniglio wrote goodbye letters to his parents, tied a cord to a vent above a sink in his jail cell and hanged himself in an apparent suicide. With the suicide though, came the difficulty of how to identify the girls from the films who were raped by Coniglio.

According to the FBI,” in partnership with the Pooler Police Department, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Liberty County Sheriff’s Department, and the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department, is working to both identify and notify the photographed victims. Those who believe they may have been victims are being encouraged to come forward, not only to aid investigators, but potentially to seek services through our Victim Assistance Program.” ( In conjunction with the investigation the FBI has released the following information about the suspect Matthew Coniglio.

Coniglio worked selling food products in Hilton Head, and at one diner he told an employee that he and a partner had started a modeling agency. He asked to take pictures of the woman's 11-year-old daughter at a mall. The girls' parents agreed. According to reports he brought the girl to a motel and most likely drugged her and may have taken photos of her. When he returned the girl to her family, she didn’t realize she had been gone for hours not minutes. Coniglio was never charged, but was asked by investigators if he was a pedophile and he answered NO. Coniglio also lived in Savannah, Hilton Head, Bluffton, Pooler, Charleston, North Charleston and Kingwood, Texas. The scheme of having a modeling agency may have resulted in victims being assaulted and not even aware of what really happened due to the drugs they were given.
