Alleged Baton Rouge serial killer arrested

Forty-three year old Jeffery Lee Guillory of Lafayette is in custody in Baton Rouge, charged with multiple counts of murder. His arrest stems from the killings of three women in the North Baton Rouge area. Guillory’s last known address is 125 South Buchanan Street in Lafayette. That address is to a homeless shelter in the downtown area of Lafayette, which has a large homeless population.

Guillory is suspected of murdering the following women:

• Florida Edwards, age 36 whose body was found on February 20, 1999 at 1100 North Boulevard
• Sylvia Cobb, age 36 whose body was found on July 25, 2001 at 631 North Acadian Thruway West
• Renee Newman, age 46 whose body was found on April 11, 2002 at 1501 Laurel Street

Guillory was identified as a possible suspect in the murder of Sylvia Cobb when his fingerprint was found at the crime scene. According to Baton Rouge Police spokesman Sgt. Don Kelly, "Additional scientific testing by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab eventually resulted in Guillory's DNA being matched to evidence at the Edwards and Newman crime scenes."

Guillory has been incarcerated on unrelated charges in Lafayette and Baton Rouge since January 2008. He is a suspect in other unsolved murders of women in the Baton Rouge area that occurred during the late 1990's and early 2000's.

A news conference is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. tomorrow in the Metro Council Chambers with Mayor Holden, Chief LeDuff, District Attorney Hillar Moore, Louisiana State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmondson and FBI Supervisory Special Agent Janice Mertz. It is expected that they will further details regarding the case.
