Yesterday afternoon, it was announced by Robert J Holley, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, that Malcolm Carpenter, 32, of Chicago, and Justin Williams, 23, of Calumet Park, were arrested and charged with the alleged robbery of the Bank of America branch at 18460 Governors Highway in Homewood yesterday morning.

According to the criminal complaint, both men entered the bank just after 10:30 a.m. and armed with handguns confronted the bank employees. One of the robbers ordered the manager to the bank vault and with the assistance of another employee, the vault was opened at which point the robber ordered the manager to deposit the money into a bag. It is also alleged that the same robber ordered a bank teller to empty her cash drawer into the same bag, after which both robbers walked out of the bank.

Upon interviewing witnesses after the robbery, police learned that two individuals were seen running toward a nearby apartment building, a search of the area found Carpenter and Williams in the parking lot of the building. Following their arrest officers recovered a bag matching the description of the bag used during the robbery that contained the U. S. currency and two semi-automatic handguns.

Carpenter and Williams appeared before U. S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Cole and were ordered held pending their next scheduled court date. Williams was scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, December 10 at 9 a.m., no date was set for Carpenter.
