According to a Sept. 20 press release, “the Democratic Party of Sacramento County (DPSC) Friday called for and accepted the resignation of its volunteer communications chair following of series of personal twitter comments directed at GOP staff after Republicans voted to defund President Obama’s health care law.
DPSC chair Kerri Asbury said the personal twitter comments made by Communications Committee chair Allan Brauer were “appalling and inexcusable.” She accepted his resignation Friday, and issued the following statement:
“The comments by our volunteer communications chair are appalling and inexcusable. No matter what our political disagreements may be, wishing harm is never an acceptable response during heated public debate or any other time. Mr. Brauer has apologized for his comments and expressed his remorse."
“Hi @amandacarpenter,” Brauer tweeted. “I am truly sorry for my tweet. I was very upset and lashed out. Your kids are not fair game either. My apologies."
“Thank you,” Carpenter replied graciously. “I appreciate it.”
While his profile on the DPSC website has been deleted , it was shared by Gary P Jackson on the blog site, “A Time for Choosing,” around 1:52 p.m. on Friday.
Allan is a longtime activist in the LGBT equality movement, starting as co-chair of the University of Chicago’s Lesbian/Gay Student Organization in the 1970s. Allan’s work in the telecommunications relay services (which facilitate telephone communications for people with hearing/speech challenges) led him to expand his activism to include inclusion for people with disabilities.
Allan’s corporate career in human resources progressed to the role of leading the enterprise-wide procurement and vendor management for a Fortune 20 corporation’s outsourced HR-related services. After a 2007 layoff, Allan became self-employed as a freelance writer, website designer and social media consultant. He provides services to help a variety of organizations use the internet to communicate more effectively with their members, donors and the general public. Allan holds a BA in Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) certificate from SHRM.
Allan’s political involvement in the Sacramento area began in earnest with the 2008 presidential campaign, where he served as co-team leader for Obama for America in the Folsom area. He subsequently joined the Folsom Democratic Club, serving as its webmaster/social media manager and recording secretary, then vice president and alternate rep to the Central Committee. He was elected in June, 2012 to represent Sacramento County’s Fourth Supervisor district, beginning in January, 2013. Allan is president of the American River Democrats. Allan also served as the social media director for the Bronner for Assembly 2012 campaign, and Jack Uppal, US Congressional candidate in CA’s 4th District.
Considering his recent statements made through a public social media site, Brauer’s “BA in Communication Arts” would be more accurately described as “BS.”
It all began Friday, when Amanda Carpenter -- speechwriter and senior communications advisor to Sen. Cruz -- sent out a pro-GOP tweet.
GOP beat gun control, changed Obama's mind on Syria, is holding the line on amnesty. We can defund Obamacare, too!
“At the urging of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas),” Business Insider reported Friday, “House Republicans voted overwhelmingly Friday for a bill that funds the government while de-funding Obamacare.
Now, Cruz is urging his colleagues to filibuster the House bill as soon as it reaches the Senate.
Brauer’s response to Carpenter’s enthusiastic support of her boss and faith that his efforts will succeed:
“May your children all die from debilitating, painful and incurable diseases.”
The backlash was immediate.
"You should be Impaled for being such a hateful POS," Buck Stackhouse@22Buckster22 replied.
“Do you hate all women,” jon gabriel @ExJon asked, “or just uppity broads who disagree with you?”
“I'm being attacked on Twitter for wishing one of Ted Cruz's pubic lice to experience the pain her boss is inflicting on Americans,” Brauer whined.
“Allan,” Jake Mansfield @Jamanguyfag advised, “you're getting calls at your Sac office...”
“Are you the same Allan Brauer from the Sacramento Democratic Party?” Chris Moody @Chris_Moody inquired. “I left a message on your office's phone.”
“YOU WISHED DEATH ON SOMEONE'S CHILDREN. And you're defending this?” J.G. Alt @nycconservative added. “Seriously. What is WRONG with you?”
“Yes,” Brauer admitted without shame.
Your party takes bread from the mouths of starving children and medicine from the sick, and I'm the problem. Got it.
“Deserves some unfollows,” Carpenter suggested.
“Busy blocking the tapeworms that have slithered out of hellspawn @amandacarpenter's asshole,” Brauer replied. “How's your day so far?”
While Ken Barnes -- president of Ken Barnes Global Advisors, LLC in Sacramento, Calif. -- attempted to defend Brauer’s apology – saying Brauer “is good man who made a mistake” and "aplogized," the effort was not well received.
“Wouldn't call someone a man who goes after a women's kids,” philliesontop @Chapat79 tweeted. “I guess the left has different views.”
While the message to Carpenter -- hoping that her children would “all die from debilitating, painful and incurable diseases” -- was certainly disturbing, it was hardly the first time Brauer revealed the extent of his intense hatred for those who don’t agree with his political views.
Taken into context with other thought’s Brauer shared on Twitter, his sudden “apology” was clearly in response to an order issued by the DPSC to save party face, not some spontaneous act of repentance inspired by sincere regret.
Thursday, Sept. 19:
That howling sound you're hearing is Satan having an orgasm over the work of his henchmen, the #GOP.
Sean Hannity would look perfect on your Thanksgiving table with an apple in his mouth. #EatTheGOP.
Then there are the other vulgar opinions Brauer shared Friday, the same day he wished Carpenter’s children would die.
Best description I've read of Cruz: Looks like a contestant from RuPaul's Drag Race out of makeup.
The #GOP is a #DeathCult. Funny thing is, what's dying is the #GOP.
@Tuhljin Does @chucktodd's *ss taste as delicious as it looks?
@Tuhljin @chucktodd I invite you to go *uck yourself with a chainsaw, you Nazi scum.
Remember: There are people who support what the #GOP is doing, and they are scum who must be shunned by decent patriotic Americans.
Brauer also shared “this little ditty” – “Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street 1982 Tour Cast, starring Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett and George Hearn as Sweeney Todd,” Uploaded March 13, 2009 by Christian James-Watkins -- for today's #GOP.”
“And then the entire universe of hateful, child-starving, health-care deniers determines that I'm what's wrong with America,” Brauer complained with disbelief.
I can't imagine spending hours poring over the TL of someone I dislike, looking for things by which to be offended. Takes all kinds.
No, but he's apparently willing to spend hours "pouring over" the bios and "tweet history" of the "new followers" that were attracted to his Twitter page by the news of his disturbing comments "looking for things by which" he would "be offended."
To my new follows: If your bio and tweet history shows that you find me awful, I'm blocking you so you're not subjected to what I say.
"To the members of the media now following me: Hello!" Brauer added, providing a link to the DPSC website where they can "read" the press release announcing his resignation.
In other words: I got fired, so there. Happy now? Leave me alone.
And now, I'll continue using this personal twitter account to express my personal opinions as Americans should.
Brauer's last tweet was posted around 11 PM Friday night.
No, you can't be my Facebook friend either.
Got it, already!
Then again, as Twitchy noted of similar incident back in July 2012, this isn't the first time "the Left’s self-proclaimed arbiters of tolerance" sought to teach someone who dared to "express" a "personal opinion" that differed from theirs "a lesson with their hateful, misogynist slurs and death wishes."
