All Muslims should empower world peace and unite against violence, terrorism, and war crimes. In fact, Allah loves peace; this explains that Islam has strict moral rules of war that forbid war crimes, and provide more than the basic human rights to those who are prisoners of war, as mentioned clearly in the translated verse of the Quran 8:61, “But if the enemy inclines towards peace, do you (also) incline towards peace, and trust in Allah for He is One that hears and knows (all things).” (Yusuf Ali 2007)
The real meaning of the word Jihad according to Islamic resources is to strive in defending one’s country, family and the values of Islam for the cause of Allah; all Muslims should be against extremist violence because Jihad emphasizes self defense and has strict rules to abide by that do not pardon any acts of terrorism. Allah inspired in the translated verse 190 of the Quran’s chapter 2, “Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah does not love transgressors.” (Yusuf Ali 2007)
Rebels also who defend their freedom and basic human rights are not terrorists. The majority of Muslims hate violence and terrorism, but there are some groups of Muslims who use religion to implement their political agenda and to earn vast amounts of money for their crimes such as Boko Haram in Nigeria. Such extremist groups use the misinterpretations of certain sentences in the Quran to recruit young, poor Muslims who are ignorant in the true meanings of Islam.
Additionally, it is unacceptable that a large number of Muslims kill each other just because they have different opinions; this behavior between Sunni and Shiites has been occurring for many years and continues in modern day at Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. These dangerous actions of taking away any soul are surely forbidden for all Muslims, unless in a situation of pure self defense.
Some countries permit those terrorist groups to practice their agenda on their land, and there are other countries that want to make Islam appear as an ugly religion in the world’s eyes. They support those groups by giving them supplies to facilitate their evil cause. At the same time, The United Nations should be stricter against countries that violate human rights and those who have a history in supporting terrorism by enforcing harsher punishments against them.
In summary, Jihad in Islam is defending the innocent people, country and the values of Islam in the cause of Allah, not committing violent and terrorist acts. This true meaning of Jihad is recognized by the majority of Muslims around the world and is observed in how peaceful the majority of Muslims are.
