I have entered All You Magazine's Grocery Challenge 2010. The challenge is to spend no more than $25 a week per person for groceries each week! This challenge seems right up my alley as a Budget Meal Examiner.
We have eight people in our family. Two of them are under the age of 12 months, so they are not included in the weekly grocery budget. With six family members remaining, we now have a budget of no more than $150 a week in groceries. This is actually a number I try to stick with anyway.
I will keep you all posted on how I achieve my goals within the next month, and I will also share some helpful shopping tips and recipes along the way.
Bismarck is a tougher market for saving money at grocery stores with coupons, as none of our local stores offer double coupon days. There are however, deals to be had, even on the healthy food that I favor.
The contest started yesterday, but my shopping day is today...if I can make it out the door, so thus far we have eaten food that came from our stockpiles...which does not count against my grocery total!
I have some pretty good shopping and cooking strategies, so I look forward to sharing them with you over the next month, as well as challenging myself to be even more frugal, creative and healthful!
What are some ways that you save money at the grocery store? I'd love to hear from you!
