The popular All Wright All Day tours return to Forest Lawn Cemetery in 2014, with multiple dates offered. The tour focuses on Frank Lloyd Wright’s contributions to the Western New York area, both old and new, residential and recreational.
This all-inclusive tour begins at historic Forest Lawn, located at 1411 Delaware Ave. in Buffalo at 8:30 a.m. (please arrive by 8:15 a.m.). The tour proceeds in a fully-enclosed, climate-controlled trolley to the Darwin Martin House Complex (1903-05) for an extended tour. Next up is the Filling Station, designed by Wright for Buffalo in 1927 and built in 2013 inside the Pierce Arrow Transportation Museum, and the Fontana Boathouse (2007) on the Black Rock Canal, where visitors get an in-depth tour. After a catered lunch at the Boathouse, it’s off for an extended tour of the Graycliff Estate (1926-31), then a return to Forest Lawn to visit the Blue Sky Mausoleum (2004).
A knowledgeable tour guide will be on hand to point out more of Wright’s architectural treasures along the way, including the site of the Larkin Administration Building (1904) and manufacturing buildings in an area now known as Larkinville.
The 2014 All Wright All Day Tours are offered May 23rd and 31st, June 14th, July 18th and 31st, August 8th and 22nd, September 12th and 26th, and October 9th and 24th; the tours runs all day from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Reservations close at 8 a.m. three days in advance of each tour. Cost of the tour is $125 per person or $115 for members of Martin House and/or Graycliff – space is limited and reservations are required.
