Most Clevelanders consider the dandelion a pesky nuisance especially when they find it growing all over their lawns but Breitenbach Winery's annual Dandelion Festival on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 will celebrate the dandelion and its many unexpected uses.
Dandelion Festival Located in Dover, Ohio in the heart of Ohio's Amish country, Breitenbach Winery is playing host to this annual event; a free family-friendly celebration with fun activities that the entire family can enjoy. It is approximately a 1.5 hour drive from Cleveland.
Activities for children (Saturday only) include a dandelion picking contest and making their own dandelion jelly.
Adults will be able to indulge in some dandelion wine sampling and can take cellar tours. Dandelion wine is one of Breitenbach WInery's most popular wines and they have been known to have a 2000 gallon supply of dandelion wine on hand.
Guests will be able to sample such delicacies as dandelion lasagna, dandelion sausage, dandelion bread, dandelion gravy, dandelion sangria and even dandelion ice cream.
The 21st annual Great Dandelion Cookoff finals will take place on Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m. with participants creating unique dandelion dishes and competing for cash rewards. Sampling of the dishes will be available. You can also order The Great Dandelion Cookbook for $8 plus tax and shipping.
The festivities will also include a dandelion arts & crafts show featuring handmade soap (Yes, there will be dandelion soap), candles, handcrafted jewelry, fine art, blown glass items, lawn ornaments and other dandelion- related items.
Live entertainment will be provided by various musical groups and singers both days of the Festival.
Runners will compete for a variety of cash prizes at the annual Dandelion May Run on a 3.5 course through Amish country on Saturday, May 3 starting at 9 a.m.
Hours for the Dandelion Festival are noon- 7 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday.
The award-winning Breitenbach Winery produces over 40 varieties of wine and is known for its fresh fruit and berry wines and, of course, dandelion wine. Breitenbach also sells specialty foods like preserves, gourmet mustards, salad dressing and sauces.
The Dandelion Festival will be held at the Roadhouse Ampitheater located at 5840 Old Route 39 (only 100 yards from Breitenbach Winery) in Dover, Ohio.
