CBS ‘Person of Interest’ fans will be pleased to know Taraji P. Henson is set to return to television. She along with Terrence Howard and Malik Yoba will be starring in FOX’s new drama pilot ‘Empire.’
Lee Daniels, the creative genius behind the blockbuster movie ‘The Butler’ will be one of the show’s executive producers.
The hip-hop drama focuses on the life Lucious Lyon (Howard), a music industry giant. Yoba will play Vernon Turner, his friend and business associate.
The trouble element will most likely come in the form of Henson who plays Cookie Lyon, Lucious’ ex-wife. Her character has just been released from prison after serving 17 years for dealing drugs and now she wants her piece of the music making pie. After all, the money she made selling drugs helped to build Lucious’ empire. Henson and Howard worked together before in the movie ‘Hustle & Flow’ so this will be a reunion of sorts for the two.
Jussie Smollet will also star in the series as their son who has a troubled relationship with his dad. Singer Macy Gracy will join the cast as Tasha, a woman having an affair with someone she likes controlling. Gabourey Sidibe has also signed up for the pilot.
