Jack Lord was born John Joseph Patrick Ryan and he appeared on Broadway and in several classic motion pictures. But he's best known for his iconic role as Steve McGarrett in the 1968-1980 series HAWAII FIVE-O.
We're celebrating HAWAII FIVE-O with some classic McGarrett photos. But first, here are a couple of fun pieces of trivia about Jack Lord.
1) According to William Shatner, Lord was offered the role of captain on STAR TREK. But he demanded a 50 percent ownership of the show, and creator Gene Roddenberry cast Shatner in his place.
2) Lord was the first actor to play the role of Felix Leiter in the James Bond movie franchise. He appeared in "Dr. No," and according to press reports at the time, Lord was replaced in later films after he demanded more money, a bigger role and co-star billing.
3) Lord was considered for the roll of Elliot Ness in THE UNTOUCHABLES before Robert Stack won the role.
4) While HAWAII FIVE-O was his biggest TV success, he also starred in the 1962 series STONEY BURKE. Lord played the title character, who was a rodeo cowboy living in Mission Ridge, South Dakota. Bruce Dern had a recurring role in that series.
5) He won a Theatre World Award in 1954 for his Broadway debut as "Slim Murphy" in Horton Foote's "The Traveling Lady."
