All eyes on Scottsdale this week as the 2013 collector car auctions commence (Photos)

The eyes of the collective classic car hobby all turn toward Scottsdale this week as six different auction events kick off the 2013 season. Here is a snapshot of what you can expect and how best to enjoy the events either in person or from the comfort of your armchair.

The 42nd annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car event runs the entire week and features 39 hours of televised coverage on Speed starting Tuesday, January 15 at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT. The Salon Collection gallery of rare and historic cars returns for a second year bringing ultra premium cars to the block at a reserve price. All other consigned lots at Barrett-Jackson are sold at no reserve.

This year's Salon Collection features a sleek 1947 Talbot Lago T26 Grand Sport, the "original" Batmobile, a 1968 Shelby EXP 500 known as the "Green Hornet", and cars from iconic marques like Pierce Arrow, Deusenberg, Rolls Royce, Delahaye, Isotta-Fraschini, Packard and my personal favorite, a 1956 Chrysler-Ghia Diablo convertible. View the slideshow for several examples.

RM Auctions returns to the Biltmore Resort and Spa with 84 premium lots to be consigned on January 18 at 11:00 AM. Featured are mega marques like Ferrari, Deusenberg, Mercedes, Shelby and Cadillac. Click on the link to view these cars individually. They are spectacular in every regard.

Gooding and Company will hold a two day event on Friday and Saturday, January 17 and January 18 featuring 156 splendid vehicles at the Scottsdale Fashion Square. Many of the lots feature pre-auction estimates well north of 2 million dollars so take the time to click the link and peruse some of these fine examples.

Scottsdale's own Russo and Steele bring their unique "auction in the round" format to the table with five days of auction excitement January 16-20 at the North Loop 101 Freeway exits 34 & 35. This years event will showcase a staggering 700 cars featuring American muscle, customs and hot rods as well as European sports cars. Check out the video for a taste of Drew Alcazar's wild spin on collector car auctions.

Bonhams comes back for a second year to the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa with 414 lots of vehicles and automobilia being offered January 17. 114 vehicles will be crossing the block, featuring over 30 cars from the esteemed Oldenburg Family Automobile Collection. The extensive collection of more than 30 cars from the prominent horse breeding family includes multiple models of the same marque, including Ferrari and Jaguar.

Silver Auctions appears at the Fort McDowell Resort & Casino near Fountain Hills January 18 and January 19 with their reasonable alternative to the other area auction extravaganzas. Silver has maintained extraordinary popularity by offering reasonably priced cars that the average collector can really relate to and afford. Here is a link to the preliminary car list.

Several of the auctions are offering live streaming of these event on their websites. Barrett-Jackson dominates the competition with televised coverage but there are viewing alternatives if you take the time to visit the links above. I will return periodically through the week with timely, insightful updates to the auction events and results so I invite you to check back here often. Enjoy the week!
