The recent announcement between the world’s largest betting exchange and the International Olympic Committee is a relief to all those who want to wager on sporting events at the London Olympics this summer.
The Betfair corporaton will once more provide betting markets for these Olympic Games, having managed gambling at both the Beijing 2008 and Vancouver Olympic Games - where no illegal activity was reported while betting on those summer and winter sports.
This major “player” will allow gamblers to bet on all gold medal events – ranging from rhythmic gymnastics to mountain bike cycling. Thousands of eager bettors will likely be more focused on the betting line, than on the long jump line.
While the types of wagers are not yet known, speculation by imaginative gamblers runs the gamut. What are the odds for these types of exotic prop bets being placed?
- Percentage of fans likely to stay awake during the 10km open water swim
- A limber floor exercise gymnast beating the spread
- An over/under bet for a pole vaulter who may be struggling
- Distance a baton will fly off the track in a botched USA relay handoff
- Number of road kills during the cycling road race
- Likelihood of women boxers forced to wear skirts vs shorts
- Odds that the USA Dream Team will slam dunk 30 times in a game
- Chance of a wardrobe malfunction during beach volleyball
Any ideas for others?
